A New Story on the Next-Generation Odyssey Raft

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

A new deepwater raft design has been created by Keith Reid that is much stronger, stiffer, and will experience a much longer lifespan than the previous design.  The Odyssey design is prevalent within the BC industry and it is hoped that this new design will be as popular, given it’s improvements.

The BCSGA, in partnership with Odyssey Shellfish, have created CAD drawings of the design and will make hard-copies of these available to deepwater growers in the upcoming mailout of our Tidelines Newsletter.  Check the video!

CSR Raft Project – Request for Proposals for Delivery & Installation of Moorings

Wednesday, February 11th, 2009

Submission provided by Joy Wade (CSR) - The Centre for Shellfish Research of Vancouver Island University is developing a Field Station in Deep Bay in Baynes Sound.  This will include a shellfish aquaculture demonstration farm.

Vancouver Island University is seeking proposals for providing the services of transportation and installation of mooring blocks and grid lines at the Deep Bay Field Station shellfish aquaculture tenure.   A maximum of 72 x 2 ton (1.8 tonne) concrete anchoring blocks need to be deployed (in pairs) according to GPS waypoints (within 5m) according to a specified anchoring plan ensuring paired blocks are separated to the extent of the connection chain.  The contractor will work with CSR supervision during the deployment.

Please contact Joy Wade of the Centre for Shellfish Research for copies of the anchoring plan.  Phone:  (250)753-3245  Local: 2889 or email:  Joy.Wade@viu.ca

Installation of the mooring blocks is the primary purpose of this Request, but transportation of the anchoring blocks from a specified cement factory to the Field Station site is also desired.  Please indicate in your response if you are interested in providing this service (transportation) in addition to the deployment. VIU may elect to source the delivery services in a separate process.VIU/CSR will provide all rigging and anchor lines for the deployment of the blocks.  Blocks will be provided through a separate contract.  The transportation bid will depend on block location, and will take into account the possibility of the deployment contractor transporting the blocks to the site.  The contractor must allow time for VIU/CSR staff to rig the blocks for deployment, which will be done as quickly and efficiently as possible.

By responding to this Request, you confirm that your company has the ability and the equipment necessary to perform this operation(s).  Click here to view a PDF of the full comprehensive Request for Proposals.
